1 month down

So it’s the end of my 1st month in my new job. I have absolutely no idea where the time has gone! I’m still getting to grips with a lot of things about the working environment and the job but I also spend less days feeling like a fish out of water than I used to.

I know that when I’ve spent 5 years somewhere and knowing what to do, when, perfectly as if the company was an extension of my body, it’s obviously going to be weird and difficult to try something new. Everyone that I’ve met has made me feel welcome so far and I can honestly say that I never expected an employer to treat me as nice as Tapflo already have, especially when you consider the turbulence of Horizon, which my friends will 100% understand.

So here’s a bunch of things that I’ve learnt and a bunch I still need to learn, even though I know that list will honestly just become huge.

Things I’ve learnt in my first month:

  • Fruit is the key to surviving office life
  • Don’t ever build your company’s website, pay for it to be done
  • And if they insist on making you build it, don’t use Magento
  • Dial 9 to transfer a call out of the office
  • Iced latte is yummy but I don’t think my body knows how to cope with that much caffeine because it’s never tried it before
  • I used to save so much money with only a 10 minute commute to work and 100% took that for granted
  • It will take me moooooonths to learn all the technical information
  • I need to start going to bed earlier
  • I miss working as a team every day with my pals but I do not miss my old job
  • The owner drinks black coffee so that’s an easy hot drink to make 👌🏻
  • Winter is gonna be a difficult commute, also I’ll have to get up even earlier to defrost my car before my hour(ish) commute
  • I need to wear my glasses more which might mean going to spec savers and paying billions for a new pair of glasses
  • Choosing my outfit the night before makes the morning run smoothly
  • My Elle Does Adulting Instagram account story is becoming an OOTD thing
  • I’m hungry as soon as I get home so I always end up eating my tea early
  • To have faith in things I’m making
  • Showering the night before makes the morning run more smoothly too

Things I need to learn:

  • How to have lunch without bread
  • EVERYTHING about marketing
  • To carry a bit of cash on me
  • The technical information about pumps
  • How office life works
  • To make myself go to the gym. I started by saying 3 times a week and then building it up. I’ve managed 3 so far but it’s been a push
  • To think quicker on my feet
  • How to stop needing a nap in the evenings after work
  • How to prioritise tasks so that I can work on more than 1 project at a time
  • To plan evening meals before I get home and am dying for food
